Photo of the Week – Week 10

St. Patrick’s Day is a pretty big holiday in New York’s capital, specifically Parade Day. You may remember my post covering the days’ events last year when my very own Mom was the Grand Marshall. This year was very similar to last without a few later evening events. Dianna’s family hosted a pre-parade boozy brunch at their house. We had everything from bagels and doughnuts to french toast and cheesy egg casserole (and of course a few pitchers of mimosas).

I then proceeded downtown to meet up with Sabrina and her family, per tradition. This year I was not participating in the parade so I was able to hang out before hand. It was a good thing too because the weather turned out to be pretty crappy. I then headed to the Irish bar downtown to try and venture through the crowds and reach another group of friends. It was interesting to say the least.

It was a low key Parade Day compared to years’ past but still fun none the less. However, I don’t think I took one picture throughout the days activities. Luckily, I can always count on Sabrina to snap our traditional shot. So this week’s photo was taken by Sabrina (well actually her boo with her phone). Thanks Adam!

Dianna’s Bridal Shower

As I have previously mentioned, we hosted a bridal shower for Miss Dianna a few weekends ago. I must say, it was a great success. Having a larger bridal party allowed for multiple ideas and suggestions and also more people to share the tasks and preparations.

I utilized my contacts at the restaurant I used to work for. They always put on a lovely event and the atmosphere you just can’t beat. You may recognize the location from my friend Cara’s bridal shower. So we booked a Sunday afternoon brunch.

DIY New Year’s Eve Photo Booth

This New Year’s Eve Nick and I hosted our second annual New Year’s Eve party. I am pretty confident in saying that it was just as successful as last year. We invited the normal crew with a few additions. To keep things simple, we had everyone bring a snack and drink to share. Champagne was provided by yours truly for the midnight toast.

One thing I added this year was a DIY Photo Booth. You see them at weddings all of the time now in different styles and formations. The most recent wedding we attended though I realized it could be very simple to create at home; especially given the fact that Nick has some killer camera gear. So here is what I did:

DIY Christmas Gift: Wine Glasses

IMG_5637

Every year the Girls Night crew has a special holiday meal at one of our favorite Italian restaurants. It is at this meal that we exchange our Secret Santa gifts. We decided a few years ago that it would be more fun and less stressful to buy a gift for our chosen receiver than purchasing four different gifts. It is definitely my favorite Girls Night of the year!

I put a lot of thought into what I wanted to gift this year. My “receiver” would have loved anything that was given to her but I wanted to do something a little different, useful, and creative. I came up with this festive idea! DIY decorative wine glasses. I loved this idea because I know she loves wine and will get a lot of use out of these. Plus, these are one-of-a-kind glasses being that I decorated them myself.

Thanksgiving with the Family

IMG_5581I volunteered to host Thanksgiving dinner again this year. Last year went fairly smoothly and it takes the stress off of my mom. To make things easier, I took my own advice by preparing ahead of time. I planned my menu, Mom and I did the grocery shopping the weekend before, and I was able to prepare a few of the dishes at least partially a few days in advance.

Thanksgiving Prep

IMG_5504Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. It’s Opening Day for the holiday season, the most wonderful time of the year. Not to mention it is a day full of cooking and eating, two of my favorite activities. With all of the food and festivities comes a lot of prep work. Being that we are only a week and a half  away I’ve decided to provide you with my favorite tips and tricks to help prepare for your big event. (more…)

A Little Wine Making & Tasting

IMG_5423

I have previously mentioned that one of my good friends, Theresa, is marrying her sweetheart. The Big Day is quickly approaching with lots to do in between. Theresa and Matt decided that they wanted to make their own wine for their wedding favors. The most difficult part of this idea though was deciding exactly which wine to make. To solve this, Theresa came up with the great idea of a wine tasting afternoon!

Somehow she was able to corale the entire bridal party (minus one groomsman), parents on both sides, and a few signicant others for the same afternoon. This includes one of the groomsman who flew all the way from California to be apart of the festivities! Props to Adam! In total we had a group of about 20 people. (more…)

Happy Father’s Day

Since my parents purchased their camp up in the Adirondack’s, there have been very few weekends Dad has not spent up there relaxing. He loves the peacefulness and fresh air the Adirondack’s are known for. With that being said, we could not think of a better way to spend Father’s Day than up North with the family.
We started with a game of golf at a small course about twenty minutes from camp. Though I personally ended with one of the worst rounds since my first swing, we still have a good time.

Happy Mother’s Day

Today we celebrate the most special woman in our lives. The person who brought us into the world, our Moms. It is a day to give back for the hundreds of other days that they have given to us. It is a day to remind them just how grateful we are for everything they have done for us and will continue to do throughout our lives.
